As we plan for 2025, your success hinges on one critical factor: seeing the market clearly. But what if the very beliefs you think are keeping you safe are actually holding your business back?

Here are the five most dangerous myths real estate leaders tell themselves - and how breaking them could unlock your best year yet.

1. I need to feel motivated first. Motivation is overrated; it comes and goes like the wind. What you really need is commitment and discipline. You create motivation through your commitment, and it’s your discipline that drives you forward.

Research from the Journal of Behavior Research and Therapy shows that taking small steps before feeling ready can actually generate motivation through momentum. Waiting for motivation is like waiting for your gas tank to fill itself.

2. Time is a thief. No, time is a gift. The real thief is your lack of prioritization. Stop robbing yourself of the opportunity to use your time purposefully. It’s about making the most of the time you have.

3. I should be further along now. Comparison is the thief of joy and progress. You’re not behind; you’re simply using someone else’s map as your GPS. What matters is where you’re headed and how far you’ve come.

Stop measuring your progress by how far you have to go and start appreciating what you’ve already achieved. If you feel stalled, give yourself some grace, identify the next small step, and rebuild your momentum.

“Motivation is overrated; it comes and goes like the wind. What you really need is commitment and discipline.”

4. Gratitude is for special occasions. Gratitude is a state of being that should be constant. If you want more, start being grateful for what you have now. This isn’t just a belief; it’s supported by science. The law of physics states that “like attracts like.” Think of someone who goes through life like Eeyore; what good happens to them? Not much.

Gratitude is a magnet; it changes the molecular structure of your brain, training your mind to focus on what’s right instead of what’s wrong. It’s not about ignoring challenges; it’s about finding beauty and progress amid the chaos.

5. When I have this or I can get to that, I’ll be happy. Happiness is a choice, not a reward. If you tie your happiness to something external, you hand it your leash. It doesn’t just show up at your doorstep. Happiness is about the mindset you bring as you focus on progress, purpose, and perspective. Stop chasing happiness and start enjoying your journey.

We all have outdated beliefs we need to evict. The good news is that once you recognize them, you can shift your mindset. That’s where progress begins.
